Am I a Candidate?

The best candidates have good skin elasticity and a stable body weight. Obese patients are not considered suitable candidates for liposuction as this is not considered a weight loss treatment. Rather, it is intended to enhance one or two areas of the body.

How Does Liposuction Work?

Anesthesia

General anesthesia is used in large-volume fat removal; local anesthesia is used for limited procedures.

Tiny Incisions

Small incisions are made near the treatment areas so the cannula can be inserted to remove fat.

Tumescent Injections

A tumescent solution is injected into the fatty tissue; the epinephrine minimizes blood loss and causes the area to swell up, making fat removal easier. The lidocaine in the solution improves comfort.

Fat Removal

With a narrow tube (the cannula), Dr. Lowe removes the fat with gentle suction.

Drains

In some cases, a small drainage tube is placed beneath the skin to help prevent fluid buildup.

What Is Recovery Like?

Expect some pain, swelling, bruising and temporary numbness. Pain can be managed with prescription medications, but you will likely feel stiff and sore for a few days.

A supportive garment should be worn for a few weeks to reduce swelling and help your skin conform to its new shape.
