Reduce Signs of Aging With Neck Lift Surgery in Oklahoma City

The neck is one of the first areas where aging can become visible, often showing sagging skin, muscle laxity, and stubborn fat deposits that disrupt the definition of the jawline. A neck lift can give you a more youthful profile.

Dr. James (Jim) Lowe, a triple board-certified plastic surgeon with over 20 years of experience, performs neck lift surgery to reshape the lower face and neck area. He is known for his precision in facial procedures at Lowe Plastic Surgery in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and has a reputation for delivering high-quality results.

What Is a Neck Lift?

A neck lift is a surgical procedure that helps tighten and reshape the area under your chin and along your jawline. Dr. Lowe works beneath the surface to tighten muscles, remove or reposition fat, and smooth the skin. His goal isn’t to change the way you look, but to help your neck reflect how youthful and energized you feel.

A neck lift can bring back the structure and shape that time may have softened, all while keeping your appearance true to you.

When to Undergo a Neck Lift in Oklahoma City

A neck lift is intended to correct sagging tissue and muscle that hang below the chin.

If you have the following conditions, you may benefit from a neck lift:

  • Drooping neck
  • Jowls
  • Neck bands
  • Excess neck fat

What to Expect During Neck Lift Surgery

For your surgery, which may last one to two hours, you will likely be placed under a general anesthetic, though a local anesthetic with sedation may be used in some cases.

Dr. Lowe will begin by making an incision from the front of your earlobe, around the back of your ear, and into your hairline.

Through this incision, he removes or repositions excess fat, then tightens the platysma, which is the thin, vertical muscle that often creates visible bands as it weakens with age. This part of the procedure plays a big role in the effectiveness of a neck lift.

He will then close the incisions with sutures and cover them with a dressing and tape.

What Happens After Neck Lift Surgery?

After your neck lift, the healing process begins right away. You’ll return home the same day with your neck wrapped in a supportive dressing to help reduce swelling and keep everything in place. Dr. Lowe will give you specific instructions on how to care for the surgical site and what to expect during each stage of recovery.

Keep your head elevated, even while sleeping. We’ll likely have you wear a chin strap or compression garment continuously for the first few days, then part-time for up to three weeks.

You should avoid strenuous activity, heavy lifting, and anything that puts strain on your neck for at least two weeks. Some swelling, bruising, and a feeling of tightness are normal early on, but these effects gradually fade. Many people feel comfortable returning to social activities and light work after 10 to 14 days.

Neck Lift Results

You’ll start to see a difference within the first couple of weeks, but your final results will take shape once the swelling fully resolves and the tissues settle. This usually takes around four to six weeks. Dr. Lowe will check in with you regularly during this time to monitor your progress and make sure you’re healing comfortably.

With a healthy lifestyle and proper skin care, the results of a neck lift can last 10 to 15 years or longer. While no procedure can stop the natural aging process, you should be able to enjoy lasting improvement.

Dr. Lowe places incisions carefully, usually starting in front of the earlobe, curving around the ear, and ending in the lower hairline. These scars are typically well-concealed and fade significantly over time with proper care.

Yes. If your double chin is caused by sagging skin, excess fat, or weakened neck muscles, a neck lift can help define the area beneath your chin and along the jawline. In some cases, liposuction may be combined with a neck lift for more sculpted results.

You may be a good candidate if you’re in good health and have concerns about sagging skin, visible neck bands, or fullness beneath the chin that doesn’t improve with weight loss or skin care. The best candidates also have realistic expectations and are non-smokers or willing to stop smoking before surgery.
